Kimimaro would have died even without his illness. He really hadn't layed a scratch on Gaara, besides, he was trapped when he died, he would've been stuck there if he hadn't died from sickness.

Rock Lee with no doubt. Off weights, open some gates, kaboom! Noone survives that. He would've killed Kimimaru if he didnt just run out of surgery and wasent fit yet. He could've easily killed Gaara if he just held on the hidden lotus a little longer to peel of the last sand armor.

But he wouldn't have, because garra was gone by then. And using the lotus for that long would have been even worse for him. Plus, the gates count as a power boost, for they are similar to that of a curse mark.

It insanely boosts your chakra, similar to that of a curse mark. Its basically a cursemark without the side-effect of losing control of yourself^^" But that is a matter of opinion. For unleashing your curse mark is a talent as well, one that takes great ability to have.
